How To Use And Why I Love The Konjac Facial Sponge

Recently I have been looking for a more sustainable and gentle way to cleanse my face without the use of drying facial cleansers and exfoliants and I happened to come across a curious little item called a Konjac sponge. My curiosity got the better of me and I had to get my hands on a couple of these sponges, try them out and do some more research about them to find out exactly how they work and the benefits of using a Konjac sponge as a facial cleanser.

A Konjac sponge consists of a fibrous natural sea vegetable much like a potato, it is rich in natural minerals and free of any additives or colourants. Although free from any additives, you can also find Konjac sponges with added red or green clay as well as bamboo charcoal which can be used for various skin types and needs. I managed to get hold of three of these sponges in bamboo charcoal, green clay and plain old original variations.

Bamboo charcoal ~ this variation is great for oily skin or skin prone to outbreaks as the bamboo charcoal has natural anti-oxidant and antibacterial properties which help get rid of ace causing bacteria.

Green clay ~ the French green clay sponge is a good choice for normal to combination skin as it contains antibacterial micro molecules which help get rid of oil, bacteria and dirt.

Original ~ the original Konjac sponge is white with no additives and is 100% natural and organic . It helps to balance the pH of the skin as it is alkaline in nature.

In addition to the variations that I managed to pick up, you can also find red clay and pink clay variations with the associated benefits. To use the sponge which usually comes sealed and dry, you simply add water!, this makes the sponge expand, soft and easy to cleanse the face with using small circular motions. Although you can use a facial cleanser with the sponge it isn't necessary or recommended as this can shorten the life of the sponge which would normally be between two and three months. The reasons i love the Konjac sponge are many but to highlight a few, I love the way that it gently cleanses and exfoliates. The Konjac sponge is 100% natural, it is sustainable, biodegradable, vegan and gluten free.

Have you used a Konjac sponge as part of your cleansing ritual? if so I would love to hear how you found it and if it has worked for your skin.
