I love taking inspiration from favourite desserts and making them into a healthier version or even a smoothie! This was the case today with all the lovely Autumnal seasonal berries available my mind drifted to years gone by when I would indulge in a slice or two of Black Forest gateau bursting with lovely cream, dark chocolate, cherries and berries yum! I decide to whip up a quick smoothie inspired by this all time favourite and managed to create something that tasted just as good as the original dessert without all the dairy, refined sugar and unnecessary added extras and simple to make and bursting with beneficial nutrients from the cacao and other add ins.
2 medium ripe bananas
3 Tbsps nut butter of choice (Almond, Cashew or other)
1 Tbsp organic plant protein powder
1 Tbsp organic cacao powder
1 Tbsp Coconut oil (melted)
1 Tbsp maple syrup
A handful of mixed seasonal berries; red berries, blackberries, black cherries
2 Tbsp dairy free coconut yoghurt / coconut whipped cream. (optional)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Put all the ingredients except the berries into a food processor / blender and blend until smooth.
Transfer the mix into a glass, jar or bowl of choice
Add the berries on top of the smoothie and add some coconut cream / yoghurt if desired, drizzle some maple syrup on top
